Refugee Week

Asphaleia Care provide welfare services for vulnerable people in the Sussex area and they asked me to produce a film for them as part of Refugee Week.

image The film focused on the stories of teenage refugees in the south east. The aim was to try to break down barriers between them and teenagers who had been brought up in the UK and to help people understand their life.

We covered typical events in the life of a refugee from the painful stories they had to tell of how and why they left their old lives and the pressures they have to face when they arrive at immigration, to how they are starting to integrate into life in the UK.

The soundtrack to the film was composed by local musicians who told the stories of the refugees in the lyrics to the songs.

image It was premiered in the cinema screening room in Worthing Library to an audience of school children and members of the community, where some of the people who took part in the film came along to meet their new friends and neighbours.
